Ever wonder how people get such deep flavours out of almonds? Roasting them is the answer. Though this takes a while, it will be worth it to get the best flavour out of your nutty snack.
Yields: as many almonds as you’d like.
Prep time: 10m
Bake time: 45-60m
Ingredients:
- Unroasted almonds
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 280F.
- Line a baking tray with parchment paper and pour your almonds onto the tray, making sure to keep it at 1 layer.
- Place into the oven and allow it to bake for 45m or more.
- To check when they’re ready, grab a random almond and chop it in half. If the centre is pale, add 15m to your baking time.
- Do this until you’re able to see a golden-brown centre on 3 consecutive almonds.
- Enjoy warm or cooled down. Be careful as they will be very hot coming out of the oven (No matter how enticing it is).
Notes:
- Slow and low is your best bet so you don’t burn your almonds.
- This recipe uses almonds but you can replace them with any other nut.
- Pecans and pistachios are more fragile so adjust the recipe for less bake time.
- This is a great snack as is, or tossed with a bit of butter and your favourite spices.
